Taryn Toomey – Slow Down and Breathe
Learning to listen to your body.
This conversation with Taryn was really about slowing down and actually paying attention to what’s going on in your body instead of just pushing through everything.
We talked a lot about how most of us are living in constant stress mode without realizing it, and how breathing is the fastest way to change that. Taryn explains that the breath is the most direct way to regulate your nervous system.
One of the biggest takeaways for me was the idea of pausing before reacting. Taryn talks about how “the space between stimulus and response is where your power is,” and that’s something I’m trying to practice more, especially in stressful moments at work or at home.
We also get into sound and movement as ways to release stress, not just sitting still and trying to be calm. As Taryn says, “Your body needs to complete the stress cycle,” and sometimes that means breathing with sound, shaking things out, or letting emotion cycle through instead of bottling it up.
Small shifts, done consistently, really do change how you feel and how you show up.
