My Slicked-Back Hair Tutorial
The hairstyle I always wear
You guys always ask me how I do my slicked-back hair, so here it is. I actually started wearing my hair like this when I was growing it out, and it became one of my go-to styles. The key for me is using products that condition my hair while it’s back and never pulling it too tight. It’s super simple and especially good straight out of the pool with wet hair.
What I Use
Crown Affair Overnight Repair Serum
Hair oil or another conditioning product if hair is dry
Small, soft boar-bristle brush
Soft hair tie
Hairpins
How I Do It
Start with wet hair if possible. If your hair is dry, add a little oil or another conditioning product first.
Work Crown Affair Overnight Repair Serum through the hair so you’re conditioning it while it’s pulled back.
Comb everything out, then use a small boar-bristle brush to smooth the hair back.
Brush around the entire head, almost like you’re working around a clock, to make sure there are no bumps.
Keep the brush in one hand and use the other to hold the hair in place as you work. Scoop underneath to make sure everything stays flat.
Secure it with a soft hair tie. Don’t pull it too tight—you don’t want unnecessary tension around the front of your hair.
Twist the ponytail in one direction (or braid it), then wrap it into a low bun.
Secure with a couple of hairpins. Jen avoids the type you have to pull open because she finds they can catch and pull the hair.
That’s it. A super simple, slicked-back low bun.
